CIM21 � Multimedia Concepts
Assignment Two

Total Assessment Value = 25% comprising:
Task: You are required to produce a multimedia product; this product can be
either of the choices shown below:
A game (an original creation or a modification of an existing game, contact tutor
for further clarification)
An instructional or educational product schools
A promotional or marketing product
Or other (see subject convenor or tutor for approval)
Delivery Method: Flash, PowerPoint or Stand alone HTML or other** (** see convenor
or tutor for approval). NB: This assignment must not have a live connection to the
internet and must be completely self contained and delivered from a cdrom!
Required Content: The product must show your understanding of the development
process of your chosen subject. This should include
Creating a working product
Include a introduction page(screen), identifying the product and purpose.
Include also a user menu.
Create a user manual. (hardcopy as well as a readme file)
The majority of the product must contain original material. That is the characters,
images, sounds, animations, titles and text, etc. must be of your own design.
Assessment:
Your product must demonstrate your understanding of designing multimedia products,
detailing the products clear purpose and objectives. It must also demonstrate your
understanding of the target audience and how their requirements were met.
The accompanying report should reflect on the development process of your game,
the choice of target audience, describing the different roles and responsibilities
that you had to undertake, the design process using concept drawings and storyboards
and functional specifications (i.e.; explaining what it will do) as well as the
timelines and detailing any copyright issues confronting the project.
You are also required to provide a user manual as well as recommendations on
how your product can be packaged and marketed for commercial use.
Submission Requirements
As part of the assignment the following is required to be submitted:
Signed Assessment Lodgment Envelope containing your report and labeled CDRom
with your product and report.
A word-processed report, with an Executive Summary (including your conclusions
and recommendations), Table of Contents, and a Description of the product. The accompanying
report should reflect on:
The development process of your game or product (as explained before)
The choice of target audience
The roles and responsibilities involved in the development process.
The design process using storyboards (ie screen shots and concept diagrams)
The functional specifications (ie explain what it will do, and how it works)
User instructions for running your product (user manual)
Produce brief recommendations on how your product can be packaged and marketed
for commercial use. Including designing the package and CDRom face (template will
be provided) and detailing your marketing strategy and distribution network.

Any evidence of plagiarism will result in a Fail. Discuss the problem with
your colleagues certainly, but do not duplicate each other�s work.
Don�t forget to keep a back up. If your assignment goes astray, whether
your fault or ours, you will be required to re-produce it. Lack of a back-up
will not meet with any sympathy whatsoever!
Late assignments may result in a lower grade for the assignment in terms of the
Swinburne assessment guidelines.

Create a product with a high standard of multimedia authorship using multimedia
tools, like Flash or other. Product evaluation showed a thorough understanding of
the importance of designing the chosen product with clear a clear purpose and objectives,
and with an awareness of the audience to which the product is targeted. Produced
a word-processed report that demonstrated a clear understanding of the concepts
and issues relevant to the tasks, and their wider implications, in a substantiated
view that was organised and cohesive. Demonstrated a very high level of scholarship.
Used fluent and persuasive language with assurance and precision, to achieve a highly
effective communication with the reader.
D � (19 - 21.9) Create
a product with a high standard of multimedia authorship using multimedia tools,
like Flash etc. Product evaluation showed a clear understanding of the importance
of designing the chosen product with a clear purpose and objectives and with an
awareness of the audience to which the product is targeted. Produced a word-processed
report that demonstrated understanding of the complexities of the concepts and issues
relevant to the tasks. Achieved effective selection and ordering of ideas.
Demonstrated a high level of scholarship. Presented a view on the proposition
with confidence, using fluent and persuasive language.
C � (16 � 18.9) Create
a product with an adequate standard of multimedia authorship using multimedia tools.
Product evaluation showed an understanding of the importance of multimedia product
design with a clear purpose and objectives, and with an awareness of the audience
to which the product is targeted. Produced a word-processed report that identified
major aspects of the tasks. Demonstrated an adequate level of scholarship.
Achieved a coherent ordering of ideas and expressed a view in clear and accurate
language.
P � (12.5 - 15.9) Create a product
with some multimedia components using a multimedia tools. Product evaluation showed
some level of understanding of the importance of designing multimedia products with
a clear purpose and objectives, and with an awareness of the audience to which the
product is targeted. Produced a word-processed report that identified some aspects
of the tasks. Demonstrated some evidence of scholarship. Presented some
ideas relevant to the proposition. Demonstrated adequate organisation and
language control.
